Spider Woman by jerrycarr Spider Woman by jerrycarr
One of my fave ladies of the 80s was Spider Woman. Way big fun--I'm really glad the character's making a big comeback, due in no small part to the work of Frank Cho. This is an homage to a cover Frank did this past year. No disrespect intended.

Spider-Woman is so awesome!
There really should be a Spider-Woman movie and solo video game.

Now wouldn't THAT kick ass?

There was a pretty awesome cartoon in the early 1980s. I think it lasted like half a season, but I loved it!

That cartoon was in 1979, actually.

Fabulous job, jerrycarr! Are you a pro?

Thanks muchly! I'm semi-pro, with a handful of credits. Did the art on a book that I co-created called Cryptozoo Crew--it ran 3 comic books and 2 graphic novels. Did a freelance page in the 50th Anniversary of The Tick. A short story in the upcoming Trickster Tales. Also a handful of pinups in different books. Maybe a few other odds and ends.

Currently, I'm working with a studio comprised of local friends and artists--called The Badmonkeybrain Collective. I still occasionally work with Insight Studios Group (Mark Wheatley, Marc Hempel).

Trying to get better about keeping this page up-to-date on my convention schedule. Next convention I'm doing is the Baltimore Con in Maryland.

Man, you sure are BUSY! And you say you're NOT a pro? With all these credits and experience I think you're already a pro. I'm not just saying this, though. I mean every word I'm saying.

What are your rates? You must charge something in case somebody asks you for an artwork.

Rates depend on what you're looking for. Con-style sketches are $20. The more finished marker pieces are $50. Single figures, for the most part. I'm known for the ladies, and likely to add a monkey, free of charge...

I like this a lot. Very reminiscent (sp?) of Bruce Timm's work

Thanks much! I'm hugely influenced by Bruce Timm (as well as Darwyn Cooke and Shane Glines--and a few others that might be harder to figure out).

Did you actually draw this upside down, or did you draw it so that she was crouching, then flip it?

I drew it right-side up, but kept flipping back and forth to check composition/hair/reference.

Thanks Rand! I've been lookin' to a bunch of 1970s Marvel characters as inspiration--hopefully I'll have time to knock a few more out in the coming weeks.

I didn't get to look at what you were doing on Tuesday other than glances but it looked sick cool. Bring that with you next week, I'd like to get a better look at it.
