Kulan Gath She Hulk by jerrycarr Kulan Gath She Hulk by jerrycarr
Years ago, Marvel did the first Kulan Gath (from the Conan comics) crossover to the current-day heroes. They've revisited it a few times over the years. I did a few cartoon versions of my favorite heroines, in full Hyperborean style.

Introducing the Savage Sword of She Hulk!

Brushpens and markers.

I like this series. I hope you do some more characters in Sword & Sorcery style (maybe Exalibur or Big Hero 6)

I'm not familiar with Big Hero 6, but you're right about Excalibur! They could make some great sword and sorcery drawings! When I get some extra time, I'll do a couple.

Thanks much! This series was pretty much made up of convention sketches that I want to revisit at some point--make a batch of pretty finished photoshop pieces. Just not enough time in the day, y'know?

This series of pictures is totally cool, & this barbarian She-Hulk is probably my favourite.

Savage sword of She-Hulk, uh ?! OK, but where is her sword ?? :)

You're not the first to ask where the sword is. Now you got me wanting to draw a new She-Hulk in micro-barbarian bikini with a huge sword!

I loved that especially when the revisited it with the Exiles. Although I love the pic I have to give you grief for calling it the Savage Sword and her remaining with out one

Yah, you're right. I've sketched a few Savage Sword homage covers with Shulkie and Wonder Woman (yah, a dangerous combo), but haven't had time to revisit and finish 'em. When I do, you'll be the first to know.

I remember an old What If...? story where Wolverine and Conan switched places and Wolvie became king and Conan ended up at the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga, knocked out Cyclops and then Phoenix destroyed the universe. "Oh Crom." were the last words spoken before the end.

This would be an interesting idea to do as one shots or something. I like it!

Now that I think about it it might have been from the second volume of the series. It might be labeled as What If...? Wolverine fought Conan. Try that and see what you can get.

Yah, I'd draw her in a Red Sonja bikini for fun, but there was already a She-Dragon all-fantasy issue (mebbe drawn by Francesco?) that was pretty much She-Hulk in a a Red Sonja bikini...

Yah, there's something about the old-school Marvel stories. They may not hold-up so well, but they were crazy fun. I was at the Baltimore con a couple years ago and came across the Spider-Man/Red Sonja team-up in a 50cent bin. Reminded me of the wacky chances they used to take. Like Godzilla in the Marvel Universe--fighting Devil Dinosaur, etc. Stuff we'd never see in today's comics, methinks.

I think I still have the old "What If.." with Conan in the modern day. And I seem to recall a Howard the Duck/Conan team up.

I don't recall a Howard/Conan team-up, but there was some kinda Red Sonja look-alike in Howard 1--mebbe Bev dressed as Sonja or some such?

There were a few issues with Bev the Barbarian.

I'll hafta dig through my books and see if I can find it. From what I recall it was a Howard story involving Man-Thing, the Nexus of Realities and Conan.

I think that's one of the Giant-Sized Man-Thing issues (no guffaws, please). It's a barbarian for sure, but not Conan. Also, I think it was drawn by Alfredo Alcala, who was inking a bunch of Savage Sword of Conan over Buscema. Man, Alcala was an amazing artist...

Why would I guffaw? Man-Thing was one of my favorite books. Maybe Alcala is why I keep thinking it's Conan.

Yah, I was at Mid-Ohio con a couple years back and remember the strange looks I got when I excitedly exclaimed "Guys, I just got Giant-Sized Man-Thing 1 and 2 for five bucks!!!"

Oh yeah, the What If Conan stories! Y'know there were two in that storyline. The first one was the usual art team of Buscema and Chan (at least the cover was, methinks). The second had a Bill Sienkiewicz cover with Conan pointing a gun at the reader. He became a pimp and a gangster. Nifty coolness.

Mebbe before your time. Kulan Gath was a Conan villain in Savage Sword--he send Conan through the well of time to retrieve an item of great importance or some such. Then, in Marvel Team-Up, Spider-Man teamed-up with the spirit of Red Sonja (in Mary Jane's body) to defeat the wizard. Then, the wizard came back to plague the X-Men in the mid 80s--turning much of the world into Hyperborea. God, I'm a geek...

Yes -and Marvel could not resolve the story right, but invoked MAKEITNEVERWAS ! like a small child wishing he never broke the heirloom vase! Dr. Strange reverted time to just before the amulet was activated and Nimrod, another tiresome mutant killing machine, arrived to throw the amulet into the bilge that runs along subway tracks !

At least they brought back the basic storyline as an alternate universe in Exiles a few years back. Was pretty entertaining...

Well, not really before my time but I must have missed that story arc- too bad because it sounds great in that 80s way where nothing is too outrageous!
