Groovy Marvel Girl by jerrycarr Groovy Marvel Girl by jerrycarr
When I was a young-un, I thought Marvel Girl was just dreamy...

Another piece from my convention drawings. Tria markers, Copic markers, brushpens, etc.

I love this! Jean Grey is still my favorite Marvel super-heroine because of how groovy she was in her Marvel Girl days! I can't think of a super hero chick who was groovier!

I love the border - extremely simple, yet extremely well pulled off!

The retro feel kicks major tush!

Thanks! Most of these were commissions or for sale at conventions, so wanted to spend most of the work on the figures, hence the simple background/border designs.

Glad you're groovin' on the retro feel--I have a real nostalgia for the early character designs.

Only when young? I'll be an old man and I'll still consider her the hottest chick in comics!

Ah, but it was the costume that got me! The first X-Men comic I ever got was from an old grocery store--and it had the green miniskirted Marvel Girl. I was hooked. I miss that look to this day, even though I know intellectually that is just doesn't work with today's superhero.

I love that costume too, I can't remember who designed... Neal Adams?

My first X-Books were reprints of Jack Kirby/Stan Lee stuff, when I was about 2 or 3 (they were my brother's), and Kirby's stuff reached out and touched me (I guess he is, in comics, my own Personal Jacob).

Y'know what's weird? Growing up, I didn't really like Kirby, Ditko, or even Kane. I was all crazy for John Buscema and Neal Adams. Somewhere between Batman, the Animated Series seasons, I went nuts for Bruce Timm's work. All of a sudden, I "got" Kirby. Now I'm insane for his work! Can't get enough. And don't get me started on Gil Kane. Once I "got" Kane, I just went crazy for all the old-timers. They've taught me sooo much, and I never even met them.

I've always been a Kirby fan, what can I say. But yes, I've learned a lot fro mthem too... and I'm not even an artist... just a writer and a critic.
